In AWE: A More Natural, Alternative Cosmecuetical

Every year about this time I start thinking about more intensive skincare. Winter seems like the perfect time to really renovate and focus on targeting issues. With colder temperatures, shorter days and less time outside, it's more convenient to pursue products and procedures that require me to stay out of the sun. I mean, I pretend I'm allergic to the sun all year round, but at least there's no warm weather or glistening pool to tempt me. With hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone and fine lines at the top of my list to tackle, I started researching products that would actually produce visible results in a decent time frame.

Most searching led me to cosmecueticals. Seems like a scary word, right? Well cosmeceuticals refers to the combination of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, or products with biologically active ingredients puporting medical or drug-like benefits. So to boil it down, results. But I'm not so sure about the drug part - and the fact that they aren't required to be approved by the FDA. Yet, I still want results!

So I kept at it and my search landed me in Australia. Not physically, I wish! But with the brand AWECosmeceuticals. This company operates on ancient Ayurvedic principles, so prevention, healing and longevity as a holistic science. They want to help us achieve those results with minimal interaction from additives. What I'm saying is that instead of the big-pharma drugs we're envisioning, they're using ancient medicinal wisdom and based on healing, from the earth as their active ingredients. Ingredients clinically proven to be safe for your skin, no Parabens, Propylene glycol, PEG, SLS, SLES, Phyhalates, Formaldehyde releasing ingredients or harsh chemicals.

So I gave it a go.

codayati Renewal System

As we know, retinoids are a popular antiaging component with it's ability to unplug pores, even out discoloration, reduce fine lines and restore vibrancy. This version is Vitamin A based 1% encapsulated retinol for extended, gentle release. Used at night, I applied a thin layer and let it soak in before applying my night cream. I noticed no irritation like I typically do with retinols, simply a little drying as it prompted my skin to renew beneath. The added B3, C and E vitamins with Gotu Kola helped with the exfoliation and moisture retention. After a week, I exfoliated well and noticed improved clarity. After week 2 I noticed my fine lines less apparent and some of my trouble spots lighter this continued to progress. Some of those lighter spots also were thanks to this next product.

kaanti Lightening Serum

Used in conjunction with the Renewal System, results are maximized with the Lightening Serum. Targeting freckles, post inflamatory hyperpigmentation, sunspots and melasma - many concerns post partum - this gentle serum uses peptides, liquorice, gooseberry, Gotu Kola and sage to fade darkened or damaged pigment. I enjoyed the faint, lovely scent in the mornings upon application and it didn't affect my makeup application. Over the course of use, I hardly noticed any irritation. After 2 weeks I noticed light fading. 4 weeks I had a few lighter spots completely gone, the rest were noticeably more even.

Overall, this line really worked for me. I had a few more blemishes than normal while using the system, but I don't typically use this many products - so who knows. However, they weren't problematic and I was able to tolerate it with the visible results I was getting. I've used other systems like Skinceuticals and Obagi, which while they did product some results, not like this - and with a lot more yucky ingredients. AWECosmeceuticals is definitely on to something with their formulations and solid foundation in the rejuvenation and healing of skin as opposed to quick fixes and harmful chemicals, which don't foster lasting, health results - which is the AWE goal.

*You should always wear sunscreen, but you NEED to wear sunscreen using these products.
